Harrogate is of course a spa town, and as such the Pump Room is a very important historical building. Unlike the mineral waters of Bath, the spa water rising in Harrogate is of a rather sulphurous nature and is therefore not quite as appealing. It is still perfectly safe to taste the water and visitors to the museum are free to do this.
The Royal Pump Room Museum is certainly worth a visit and is full of fantastic exhibitions detailing the rich history of Harrogate. Located just past the top of Montpellier Hill, there are also a number of excellent restaurants and hotels in the surrounding area.
